What gematria mean

gematria is an ancient form of numerology that is still popular in many cultures today. The term comes from the Greek word "gematria", which translates directly to "geometry". The practice involves assigning numerical values to letters, words and phrases in order to analyze the hidden meanings behind them. This can be used for predicting the future or understanding hidden connections between different concepts or people. Gematria has been used by various religious and philosophical traditions throughout history, as well as some modern day schools of thought such as New Age and Kabbalism.

The practice of gematria dates back thousands of years and its origin can be traced back to Jewish tradition, where it was mainly used to uncover metaphorical connections between passages from the Bible. Other ancient practices such as Pythagoreanism, Gnosticism and early Christian mysticism also utilized the practice in their own ways. For example, many of these traditions believed that each number had its own spiritual implications, which could help enlighten certain aspects of life. As time progressed, gematria became more widespread among different societies and eventually began to include elements from Ancient Greek, Latin and English alphabets into its practice.

The most popular way of interpreting numbers through Gematria is through assigning numerical values associated with each letter within a word or phrase. Generally speaking, each letter corresponds with a certain value that resembles its symbolic sound or position within a language's alphabetical sequence (i.e a=1 b=2 c=3 etc.). Once these values have been determined for a particular word or phrase, they can then be added together in order to bring out its hidden significance or spiritual message. For instance, if one were to assign A=1 B=2 C=3 resulting in ABC equaling 6 this could symbolize harmony since 6 is also known as the "number of perfection" within Pythagorean tradition (which some believe influenced early Christian mysticism).

Gematria can also be used for divination purposes although there are no concrete set rules for how it should be done properly. Generally speaking one should focus on assigning numerical values associated with each letter within a word or phrase so that the meaning behind those words can become more clear to those who seek enlightenment from such activities
